Nursing Home Abuse

Nursing homes are meant to be a safe environment where our elderly family members can go to receive qualified medical treatment and assistance with daily tasks.  But what should you do when you suspect that your loved one is being neglected or abused by the nursing home staff that are responsible to take care of them?  Contact me immediately.  I have years of experience practicing elder law and filing lawsuits against negligent or abusive nursing homes on behalf of elderly victims.

Do You Know the Signs of Elder Abuse?

Due to their age, medical conditions or diminished state of mind, senior citizens are often easily victimized and manipulated.  If you suspect that your elderly family member is being mistreated by the staff at their assisted living facility, the first step is to recognize some of the most common indicators of neglect and elder abuse, such as:

  • Untreated Bed Sores;
  • Unusual Bruises;
  • Malnutrition / Weight Loss;
  • Depression;
  • Infected Wounds;
  • Sprains & Broken Bones;
  • Changes in Mood / Behavior;
  • Refusing to Visit with Family;
  • Unexplained cuts or scrapes.

In addition to these common indicators, if your elderly loved one has any injuries and the explanation provided by the nursing home staff is inconsistent or hard to believe, you should immediately document the injuries and consult an attorney.
